In the Rio Parana delta, one of the five largest in the world, boatmen beekeepers bring their hives over for the season onto thousands of islands covered in spring blooms. The colorful hives are set on piles to protect them from flash floods caused by drenching rains. For four months, the bees enjoy the rich honeydew of aquatic flora blooming in a thriving ecosystem.
This is the story of beekeepers who continue the transhumance tradition honored since the days of old and struggle to find their place between agroindustry and intensive breeding.
